DEPARTMENT PROFILE

Language is the very core of one’s expressive self. More the knowledge of languages, better is the communication. In our college, we offer three languages: Konkani, Marathi & Hindi. We have well qualified and dedicated staff who have also presented papers at the State, National and International level as well. 6 Faculty have either authored/compiled or edited 10 books to our credit. We have ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Mandal (Indian Literary Association) under whose auspices we organize many Cultural and Academic programmes all through the year with a view to boost the language and unlease the hidden talents of the students. A student graduating in these languages can choose a variety of careers: Noble profession of Teaching from KG to PG level, can engage private coaching classes, journalism-Print as well as Electronic media, RJ’s for Radio Mirchi, Big FM 92.7, can do freelancing, creative writing and translation, designing of Advertisements and brochures, projects of Lexicography, Projects from National Book Trust, Sahitya Academi, Delhi, Goa Konkani Academi can be availed of in the works of children literature, translation etc. The Department successfully conducts two Career- Oriented Non-Conventional Courses: Long term Course in Marathi Journalism and a Short term Course in Typying in Devanagari ‘Mangal’ font-Unicode. Students have won many prizes in the field of Creative writing, quizzes and performance arts.

Significance of Course:Short term Course in Marathi Journalism is a short term course for students interested in pursuing a career in print as well as electronic mass media. The course is open to anyone from any stream with 12th pass qualification.

Significance of Course:Through this course, students were able to type in Devanagari script flawlessly so that they can type their assignments and projects . They can even take typing projects as a side business.
