Department of Zoology
SCOPE OF ZOOLOGY
Department of Zoology offers a vibrant and multidisciplinary undergraduate programme designed to introduce students to the diversity of the animal world while developing scientific thinking, environmental awareness, and practical skills. The curriculum integrates theory, laboratory training, field exposure, and skill-based learning, enabling students to understand the role of animal life in ecosystems, human health, and sustainable development
1) Core Academic Courses
The programme provides a strong foundation in zoological sciences through carefully designed courses:
Introduction to Zoology – Fundamentals of animal biology and diversity
Exploring the Animal World – Understanding classification, adaptation, and ecology of animals
Field and Laboratory Methods in Zoology – Training in scientific observation, specimen study, and basic research techniques
Applied Zoology – Practical applications of zoological knowledge in reallife contexts.
2) Interdisciplinary Learning
To connect biological sciences with human well-being and society, the curriculum also includes:
- Food, Nutrition and Health
- Public Health and Hygiene
- Sports Physiology
These courses help students understand the importance of nutrition, hygiene, and hysiological healthin everyday life.
3) Skill Development & Experiential Learning
The department emphasizes hands-on learning and skill enhancement through:
- Laboratory practical’s and scientific demonstrations
- Nature trails and biodiversity studies
- Field visits to reputed research institutes and organizations
- Workshops for developing laboratory and analytical skills
- Aquarium Fish Keeping, introducing students to aquaculture practices and entrepreneurship
4) Collaborations & Internship Opportunities
To provide real-world exposure, the department has established important collaborations:
- MoU with AERO (Environmental Organization) providing internship opportunities in environmental conservation and field research.
- LOU with WWF, enabling students to gain insights into wildlife conservation and sustainability initiatives.
These partnerships help students experience environmental work, biodiversity conservation, and community outreach programmes.
5) Certificate Course
Students can also enroll in a Certificate Course in Basics of Medical Diagnostic Techniques, which provides:
- Introduction to medical laboratory diagnostic procedures
