Dhempe College of Arts and Science organized a Quiz Competition “ MATHEMATICA 1.0”   in Mathematics on 16th February 2019,   for the students of class IX of Goa Board , with an objective to promote the learning of Mathematics at school level. The Competition was sponsored by the Department of Science and Tecchnology, Government of Goa . The Convenor of the Competition was Dr. Vrinda Borker, Principal, Dhempe College of Arts & Science. It was organized with the advice of Mr. Rajesh Bhatikar, the Administrator   of the College. In all twenty two  Schools from all over Goa participated in the Competition .The first place was bagged by Master Aditya Sitaram Walavalkar and Miss Arushi Burye of Shree ShantaDurga High School, Bicholim .The second place was taken by Miss Neha Gaonkar and Miss Suhani Prabhu  Chodnekar of People’s High School, Mala Panaji Goa. And the third place was taken by Master Harsh S. Kamat and Master Sankesh R. Kaisukar of Dnyanprassarak Vidyalaya, Mapusa Goa.

Ten teams were selected after the elimination round for  the second phase of the quiz competition . The second phase consisted of visual round, Buzzer round, Speed Math , Correct me if I’am wrong and  Rapid fire round. The final three teams had the round using the latest technology  using gmail. The syllabus for the Competition was as per the syllabus of Goa Board upto IX standard.

The chief Guest for the Prize distributition ceremony of the quiz was Mr. Yatish Dempo, trustee of  DCT’s Dhempe College . The quiz incharge was Mrs Maria Suzana Miranda , Associate Professor in Mathematics at Dhempe College . It was coordinated by Assistant Professor  Mr. Vitendra Mhatonkar and  was organised in association with the Mathematics Alumni of the College .The accompanying teachers  from the School were given an introductory session on Mathematical software “ LATEX” and Statistical Software “R”.  During the day  the  students were shown Mathematical exhibits  put up by the students of the College  in accordance with the syllabus of standard IX.  The students and the accompanying teachers were  given a talk on “ Interesting Aspects of Mathematics “ by  Mr. Zen Lobo Assistant professor in Mathematics at St. Xaviers College, Mapusa.

The objective of the competition was to promote the learning of Mathematics at School Level. The College plans to hold training sessions in  Mathematics for various schools.
