Department of Botany in association with Mycoasia- journal of modern mycology organized a National seminar under DBT star college scheme titled ‘FASCINATING WORLD OF FUNGI’ on 19^th and 20^th January 2024, from 9.30 am – 4.00 pm in Swami Vivekanada hall. The seminar focused on different aspects of fungi. The seminar was inaugurated at the hands of Prof. D.J. Bhat. Seminar was organized in a hybrid mode and was attended by more than 230 participants. 173 participants from different parts of the country and even some international participants attended the seminar in an online mode while 53 participants from the different colleges of Goa attended the seminar and hand on training sessions in an offline mode. Seminar aimed to impart rudimentary knowledge in fungi and generate appreciation for mycology amongst students. The first technical session was conducted on 19^th January by Prof. D.J. Bhat, distinguished scientist fellow & retired professor of Botany, Goa University, on the topic THE FUNGAL WORLD AS WE KNOW. The second session was conducted by Dr. S. Raghukumar, CSO, Avisa Myko, Inc., Managing Director, Myko Tech private limited and retired scientist at CSIR National Institute of Oceanography, Goa. The topic was MYCELIUM: THE WONDER OF FUNGI. On 20^th January first session was conducted by Dr. Damodara Shenoy, Senior Scientist, CSIR National Institute of Oceanography, Regional Centre Vishakhapatnam on topic HOW TO IDENTIFY A FUNGAL SPECIES? Followed by the next session by Dr. Sameer Damare, Principal Scientist, CSIR National Institute of Oceanography, Goa on topic APPLICATION OF PROTEOMICS IN MYCOLOGY. Hands on session on all topics were conducted on both days from 2.00 to 4.00 pm for offline participants.
