The Political Science Department was established as an independent department in the year 2006. It started with six units from the academic year 2005-2006 and its result pattern so far has been cent percent.
The Department has two permanent faculties – Dr. Ketan Govekar (Associate Professor & Reader) and Dr. Karuna Singh (Assistant Professor). Both the lecturers are involved in teaching / counselling at the post-graduate and under-graduate levels under the IGNOU.
The department intends to establish collaboration with State / National or International institutions and plans to set up a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Administration.

|Activities:||1. Student’s Parliament Competition 2015-16 held on 30th January 2016, in the Goa Legislative Assembly building, Porvorim. 2. A Documentary was screened for the students of the Political Science Dept. on 5th of December 2015. 3. A quiz competition ‘66th Year of Indian Constitution: Reflection’ was conducted on 4th December 2015. 4. A collage making competition was organised on 19th August 2015. 5. Poster making competition was organised on 29th July 2015 during the PEP programme, on the National mission theme “Beti Bachao Beti Padao” 6. A debate was organized on 22nd July 2015. The documentary was about the formation of the Indian Constituent Assembly and the deliberation involved by the constitution’s framer while framing the Indian Constitution.
- The Documentary was followed by explanations and discussion by the faculty member i.e. Ms. Fouzia Rizvi of Political Science. The response from the students was encouraging to have more such events in Future.
Inauguration Function of Political Science Forum
The political science forum, a yearly departmental academic activity club of Political science Department of Dhempe College of Arts and Science, was formally inaugurated in the ceremony held on 13th August, 2014 in the A.V Room. Administrator Mr. Sunil Prabhudesai, graced the occasion as chief guest in presence of Mrs. Yasmin Modassir, Principal of Dhempe College, Dr Ketan Govekar, Chairman of Political science forum and Head of political science department also present .Miss Pradnya Desai compered for the event.

The Political Science Department organized Poster Making Competition on the Theme “Violation of Human Rights” on 25th August 2014, under the banner of Political Science Forum by Asst. Prof. Fouzia Rizvi and Asst. Prof. Elsy Braganca.

There were around 4 Groups and 2 Individuals participants have participated in the competition. After minutely analyzing each posters, the Judges declared Group A of FYBA Students Ms.Charlaine Colaco,Mr. Melvin Gracis and Mr. Jon Pereira as winner
whereas Group B of SYBA Students namely Ms. Abelona Ms. Sharon Fernandes and Mr. Rashwin Lobo won the Second Prize.

Non-Conventional Course on ‘AWARENESS ON RURAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES’
The department of Political Science has organized a short term Non-Conventional Course on ‘Awareness on Rural Development Schemes’.
The course was coordinated by Dr. K.S Govekar, Head of Department of the Political Science Department along with Asst.Prof Miss.Fouzia Rizvi.
Title: Non-Conventional Course on “Awareness on Rural Development Schemes”
Duration: 12 hours (8 sessions); weekly 2 sessions of one and a half hour each.
Objective of the Course:
- The course intends to spread among the Students the knowledge about various Rural Developmental schemes of the Central as well as State Government.
- The Course seeks to orient and guide the students towards People’s Participation in Rural Administrations.
- The Course seeks to generate awareness among the students about the potentialities of the Rural Developmental Schemes for their better implementation
